I have been a teacher since 2008 and have always enjoyed teaching about the human body, especially the brain and how it works. I am offering this class as an asynchronous class opportunity/flex class so as give students the opportunity to self-study in a more flexible manner. In my classes, I use a reading and comprehension focused method with hands-on practical applications to support learning. In my classes, learning is engaging, fun and individualized. I had offered a body class through Outschool and while we discussed the brain, there wasn't enough time to delve into the wonders of it in detail. This standalone class will allow for that opportunity.
Homework Offered
Students will be assigned an independent research project on diseases of the brain. They will also complete assessments on neuroplasticity and growth!
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learner progress is evaluated through the participation in classroom discussions in the forum and completion of assignments.
Grades Offered
The teacher will provide discussions, readings, PowerPoints and activities. For the brain making activity, it is suggested that the student have access to clay/playdoh, common household items such as Jello, plastic bags, instant potato flakes, vegetable oil, salt, sand, cream of tartar, food coloring (costs variable but can be found in the grocery store near you).
