Description

Class Experience

In short, students will learn how to identify dangerous predators online and will learn just how vulnerable they really are, and learn WHY!

How do predators build strong relationships with kids online?

How do predators earn the trust of kids online?

How long do predators take to groom potential victims online?

Where do predators go online to find their targets?

What information do predators need in order to locate their targets?

Why we don't share personal information with anyone online including passwords and usernames - The most plain photograph can be used to track someone's location.

Everything online lives forever, and we need to think before we post.
Students will learn the warning signs and red flags of predator behavior online and in real life
Students will gain a greater insight to understanding themselves and how this applies to the psychology that predators use
Students will learn how predators use their emotions against them
Students will learn that everyone online lies
Students will learn how important it is to not share anything online, including things like the time or the weather because they will see how predators can use this info to find their location and earn their trust
I have been teaching this subject for over a year on Outschool now, and parents are always thanking me for the impact this class has on their kids, and on their family relationships as a whole.
I teach lessons on social-emotional health and learning to my students as part of my professional teaching job.
I am constant in my research on this topic as I have two teens myself, and I am a trusted source for my friends and their kids.
I teach in a school with at-risk youth that I help to mentor and teach them how to deal with their emotional issues, which includes pornography use and their attempt to keep secrets from their parents about what they do online.
I have worked with some kids who have fallen victim to online predators before
I've been online since before I was 12 using chat rooms, many forms of social media, online banking, online investing, learning, and teaching.
Professional teacher for over 14 years.
Mentor for over 22 years. (Mentoring since I was 17).
Youth leader and teacher for over 21 years.
I have mentored kids at all ages, from 3 years old into adulthood.
I have taught internet safety for my entire professional career in addition to regular curriculum.
I have taught internet safety to all the kids I have mentored.
I have done professional development sessions at work, showing them how to teach internet safety.
I have taught parents internet safety to help keep their kids safe online and in-person.
I teach my 2 teenage sons how to stay safe online and monitor their online activity very frequently.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I do mention divorce in this class, and I mention that kids get kidnapped by predators.
These are a lot of sources that parents can use to further educate themselves on this topic and share with their teens. It is impossible for me to cover every single bit of information on this topic, so I have included these helpful and informative sources as like a one-stop shop for parents on everything related to internet safety.
