US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
Most children are familiar with basic sentence structure, including nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Some even grasp adverbs and prepositions. However, to write strong, detailed, and engaging sentences, young writers need to master different sentence patterns and understand how all 8 parts of speech work together to create vivid, powerful writing. TEACHING STYLE: In this live, interactive semester class, learners will dive into an engaging and colorful PowerPoint presentation and interactive discussions to master writing strong sentence patterns. Using the fun "Strong Family" theme, students will explore how the "powers" of all 8 parts of speech create vivid and powerful sentences. Each lesson builds on the previous content but also stands alone, allowing for flexibility for late enrollment. Lessons include a review of prior material, in-depth instruction on a specific part of speech, and exploration of unique sentence patterns. The class starts with instruction on a particular part of speech. Students actively participate by answering questions, contributing to discussions, and crafting their own strong sentences during class. With sentence pattern planners, fun picture prompts, and provided materials, this course offers a dynamic and effective way to improve writing skills while keeping kids engaged and excited about learning. COURSE DESCRIPTION: • Students will master the 8 parts of speech and explore sentence patterns to create strong, engaging, and powerful sentences. • Using a fun, interactive slideshow with superhero-themed visuals, learners will discover the "powers" of each part of speech and practice crafting detailed, descriptive writing. • Through active class participation, students will strengthen their understanding of sentence structure while learning to write sentences that are clear, dynamic, and creative. • By the end of the course, learners will confidently write descriptive sentences that bring their ideas to life and paint vivid pictures for readers. • After completing this course, students will be fully prepared to take the next step in their writing adventure and continue building strong, creative, and descriptive writing skills. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: • Learners should be able to write with a pencil and have basic writing skills. • A good understanding of spoken English is required for effective participation. • Perfect spelling and punctuation are not required; focus is on developing strong sentence structure and creativity. • Learners may need occasional homework support from parents to reinforce key concepts.
Learning Goals
• Review and master the 8 parts of speech: Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Pronouns, Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections.
• Explore sentence structures with the 8 parts of speech, including direct and indirect objects, and objects of prepositions. Students will gain a solid understanding of their usage, though mastery of these concepts is not required.

My passion for writing began at the age of 8 and has only grown since then.
I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor with over 25 years of experience helping both gifted and struggling writers. Over the years, I identified a gap in writing education, where many students lacked fundamental skills in parts of speech, sentence structure, and paragraph writing. In response, I developed a fun and engaging program designed to teach students how to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. This approach has proven effective for students who both love and struggle with writing. Now, I'm thrilled to bring this proven program online to reach a broader audience and help even more young writers thrive.
What parents are saying:
Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
