In this weekly stand alone class, learners will power up their sentences with different sentence patterns based on the 8 parts of speech. Their ideas will transform into strong, descriptive writing using the skills taught in class.

Class experience

US Grade 2 - 4
•  Review the 8 parts of speech: NOUNS, VERB, ADJECTIVES, PRONOUNS, ADVERBS, PREPOSITION, CONJUNCTION, INTERJECTION,
•  Various sentence structures on the 8 parts of speech as well as new concepts like indirect objects, direct objects, and object of the prepositions. Students are NOT EXPECTED TO MASTER the follow: indirect objects, direct objects, adverbs, prepositions, but are only to gain a better understanding of where and how they are used in a strong sentence.
•  Clear and cohesive descriptive sentences using the different parts of speech.
•  Sentence starters: verb, adverb with different sentence patterns.
 •  Beginning storytelling using picture prompts and strong sentences.
•  This is not necessarily a grammar class, though some comma rules and basic punctuation will be addressed.
My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't. I'm excited to bring my program online to an even bigger audience.

What parents are saying:

Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
Homework Offered
* Homework will be given after every class and will need to be PRINTED OUT, finished before the next class, and uploaded to the teacher messaging section, not the class page. Simply scan the document as one and upload for review. * Some videos may be required outside of class for lesson reinforcement. * There is no guarantee that I will be able to assess homework that is turned in late. * Parents must monitor their children's homework, help when needed, and make sure it is done and turned in on time.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
* Assessments will be done in class through class participation and sentence writing. Parents will be notified if student needs more help in a certain area, but it is up to the parent work with the child outside of class. * It is parent's responsibility to follow up with any questions and concerns. * An informal assessment will be given as needed when homework is turned in and evaluated. * A more formal assessment is available on request only.
Grades Offered
* As needed, a pdf will be uploaded in the classroom each day before class for the students to print out and use as a guide.
* Learners should also have a pencil and lined paper, and a folder or 3 ring binger to organize their material.
Students will need to be able to write with a pencil and may need parental help.
***PARENTS PLEASE READ BEFORE TO REGISTRATION***

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: I will start each class announcing my class expectations which include:
**NO using the chat box for messages not relative to the discussion and questions
**NO drawing and writing on the screen I use for teaching
**NO learning sharing their screen for any reason
**NO disruptive behavior such as flashing lights in the screen and constantly switching their background

While I understand many students are new to online learning, if a student does not respond to correction and continues disruptive behavior, he or she will be asked to leave the class for the day or the rest of the time. Videos may be accessed, however no refund will be issued if learner does not show cooperation in correction and is asked to leave class.

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING these rules are in place due to problems in past classes (with younger students) and are enforced to ensure that ALL students have the best experience possible.

Profile
I love seeing students get excited about writing, even reluctant writers. Ever since I was 8  years old, I've been journaling and writing poetry to express things I couldn't speak out loud or didn't know how to. My thoughts just came out better...
