Description
Class Experience
Join the young poets society writing poetry class, where you will develop your own unique style of writing poetry. The Young Poets Society is a unique writing experience where students learn how to write poetry, explore different forms of poetry and practice writing in class. Each student will have the opportunity to share work with others and develop ideas that inspire creation. In this class, students will work on the basics of poetry through exercises that focus on form, rhyme and...
Students who do not finish writing their poems during class time will be encouraged to complete their poems for homework.
Any students wanting teacher feedback on their poems are asked to write their poem in Google Docs.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be exposed to classic poems chosen by the teacher. The poems will have appropriate vocabulary, topics and themes for students 11 years and older. Please note that poems are written from the heart and often contain the poet's own world views on love , politics, etc. However, our focus will be on HOW to write, and we will not be discussing in much detail WHAT the poems are about. Google Docs will be used by students to type their poetry and submit to the teacher for constructive feedback.
The teacher will read poetry examples from public domain from the 16th to 20th centuries. Students do not need copies of the poems to participate in the class.
