Nowadays, there is an app for everything. But who decides what app gets built? How do they make sure the apps are successful? The answer is PRODUCT MANAGERS! Like conductors of an orchestra who coordinates different musicians to create beautiful music, Product Managers work with different experts (coders, designers, marketers, legal etc) to build product like a smartphone, a website, or a new toy." In this 4-week course, What You'll Learn: We'll learn the fundamentals of Product Management, why it is important - Explore how Tech companies go about creating ideas and making them a reality - Discover how to come up with smart solutions for everyday problems -Share your ideas and create your very own simple version of a product! Why Join: No tech knowledge needed – just your curiosity! Equip yourself with skills that go beyond coding. This course cultivates creative thinking, problem-solving, team work in a tech-driven world. Class format: Every session will focus one skill. There will be a lecture followed by interactive discussion. Week 1: The Basics of Product Management Lecture: Introduction to product management: What it is and why it matters. Discussion: Exploring famous products and their impact on our lives. Week 2: Idea Generation and Problem Solving Lecture: Brainstorming techniques to generate unique product ideas. Discussion: Identifying a problem and brainstorming potential solutions. Week 3: Building and Testing Prototypes Lecture: Introduction to prototyping tools and methods. Discussion: Creating a basic prototype for a product idea. Week 4: Crafting a persuasive product pitch. Lecture: Elements of persuasive product pitch Discussion: Presenting the developed product idea to the class. Note: 1) We will not be learning to code or how to use code to build actual apps 2) Although the class leverages activities and discussions for learning, I can accommodate learners who don't feel ready/comfortable talking or sharing with the group. For such students, I will encourage offline interactions (e.g. using zoom chat during class, discussions/questions via Outschool Conversations, submitting responses to activities after class via Outschool Conversations).
