Young Environmental Scientist Camp
Class experience
This multi-day class will give students a chance to make new friends while discovering new things together! We will start the class with an ice breaker. This might look something like, “If you were in a stream and lifted up a rock, what would you find? Draw or write your answer.” Students will be given the option to share. Each week we will explore a new topic in environmental science with a fun, light discussion and hands-on activity or experiment. Examples of activities and experiments...
Students will be introduced to environmental science through a variety of topics. Students will understand environmental issues each topic faces.
Week 1 -students favorite flavor of ice cream (1 scoop) -small sized candy (chocolate chips, m&ms) -medium size candy OR cookies crushed/broke in half (Reese cup mini, mini Hershey -Magic shell chocolate sauce (chocolate sauce that hardens when it’s place on ice cream) -bowl -spoon Week 2 -clear glass or jar -1/2 cup of dirt -1 cup water -coffee filter -rubber band Week 3 -Dixie cups, paper cups (as many as the student wants to use for planting seeds) -seed starter or soil -Lima bean seeds -green bean seeds -cucumber seeds -any other seeds the students want to try to sprout -spoon -permanent marker Week 4 -3-4 sink sponges (different colors if the students want to add color to tiger project) -glue -cup of water -2 TBSP of grass seed -scissors Week 5 -cup of water -empty cup or bowl -red food coloring -small pieces of paper (ripped up) -dishcloth/rag -coffee filter -coffee grinds (2 tsp.) -spoon -tray -paper towels for clean up
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
