This is a 4-week course designed specifically for the younger beginning piano student. We will follow the adventures of Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear to learn keyboard basics in a fun and encouraging setting. We will be using the Music For Little Mozarts Music Lesson Book 1, and will expect to cover about the first half of the book, although pacing of the class may be adjusted as necessary. No previous knowledge or music instruction is necessary! Week One: Students will be introduced to Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear. We will learn how to sit at the piano and curve our fingers, low sounds and high sounds, moving up and down the keyboard, and loud and soft sounds. Students will learn left and right hand finger numbers and play on 2 black keys. Week Two: Students will review posture and hand position, low and high sounds, loud and soft sounds, and left and right hand finger numbers. We will learn about quarter notes, bar lines, and measures, and read notes for left and right hand. Week Three: Students will learn about 3 black keys and quarter rests. We will play several new songs. Week Four: Students will review all of the concepts learned so far and play several new songs using only the black keys on the piano.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to play with correct technique and learn to play several simple songs using black keys and finger numbers.

Hello! I am so excited to teach piano classes on Outschool! I have been playing piano most of my life and I really love teaching beginners. It is so important to learn the fundamentals like correct hand position, posture, and note reading from the very beginning, and these are some of the things that I really focus on in class. I have taught many students of all ages how to play the piano. I have also taught high school and jr. high school choir and jr. high school band in the San Antonio, Texas area. I have been an accompanist for many groups, including The Children's Chorus of San Antonio, and I served as a member of the Fifth United States Army Band at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. I look forward to working with your child!
