In each week of this ongoing creative writing club, learners will improve their creative writing skills by learning about a new theme or concept in writing and having the chance to bring that to life through their own stories! Each week, we will cover a different theme or concept in writing to serve as a prompt. Every topic will be self-contained so learners can join or rejoin at any time! I will introduce the topic, pointing to some good examples of it in famous stories, and we will discuss it. These themes could vary from intriguing settings to vibrant character types to special writing techniques! A schedule is listed below. After covering the topic of the week, students will have the chance to bring that topic to life through their own writing. Much of each class will be spent in this free writing time, but I will pause this time along the way to give suggestions to help with the writing process. Learners will be given the chance to share their work at any of these pause points and at the end of class to receive feedback and encouragement. This is not at all required, but can be a fun and rewarding part of class! Students are also more than welcome to message me their stories after class for feedback if they were hesitant to share in class or if they are just looking for more! A typical class will be structured as follows: 15 minutes introduction and opening discussion, 50 minutes free writing time, and 10 minutes closing discussion. There is room for flexibility here of course, depending on how much the students want to share and discuss! This is of course a very interactive and engaging class that requires student participation. The more a learner puts into the class, the more they will get out of it! I love to hear all of the different ideas students can come up with, and they are therefore encouraged to share their work as much as they feel comfortable. This of course applies to class itself, but students again are also welcome simply to share privately. In any case, I will always provide feedback to the students, combining encouragement and tips for improvement in future writing. This class does not require any previous experience, only enthusiasm and a willingness to try and write! Every child and every writer works at their own pace and in their own way. I am here to support them as they gain confidence and hone their skills as creative writers! Hope to see you in class! Happy writing! Learning Goals
Each week, students will hone their writing skills and gain first-hand experience with the writing process. They will learn how to express their ideas in writing and through class discussion. They will have the chance to experiment in writing all different kinds of stories. They will gain confidence as writers as they grow in their skills and ability to share their work each week. And hopefully, they will have a lot of fun learning better how to bring their stories and dreams to life!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Some topics we cover in class will provide students opportunities to write stories that include battles, monsters, or other things that some students may find unsettling. Naturally, the topics themselves will be kept generally age appropriate, but if you know your child is more sensitive to certain topics, please check the schedule each week to make sure that they will be comfortable with the topic at hand. Just let me know if they will not be attending that week and they can join back in on the next one!
Supply List

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an aspiring author myself. I have spent many years going through the writing process on works of varying length. I have also always been an avid reader and lover of other storytelling media like film, TV, animation, and comics. Very often the discussion and analysis of other works is incredibly helpful in learning what works and what doesn't in stories. It is largely a hobby, but it is still ten years worth of experience. Additionally, my Bachelors and Masters degrees in history and theology, respectively, are both writing intensive, and I have had many opportunities to hone the craft of writing through that. The history degree in particular is immensely helpful with regards to writing, as the story of humanity is rich with storytelling inspiration that I love to draw from!
