Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their measuring skills, learn terminology used in baking and will enhance their baking techniques. Students will make nut butter pie during class.
I have been baking all of my life! I am an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts. I also teach Food and Nutrition in an Ontario High School and have taught many young people how to bake this recipe successfully. I love to share my joy of baking with students and to see their confidence in the kitchen improve.
No homework unless they want to make them again! Students will have to clean up and wash their dishes after class.
Peanut Butter/Nut Butter of your choice (at room temperature), graham cracker crumbs, salt, sugar, butter, whipping cream or whipped cream substitute, vanilla extract, powdered sugar/confectioners sugar/icing sugar, cream cheese (at room temperature), pie plate, oven, mixing bowls, spatula, hand or stand mixer
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given informal, anecdotal comments during the class.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This is a hands on cooking class so students might need help using a mixer and oven. As we are whipping the cream together in class, a stand or hand mixer is needed. However, if you want to buy a premade whipped cream product before class, that is fine too. Be aware that I will be demonstrating how to do this during class so your learner will have to observe the rest of us doing this. I will also be demonstrating how to make the filling using peanut butter but other nut butters can also be substituted if there are allergies or dietary restrictions. I will also be using dairy based whipping cream but again, if you have a premade whipped cream product you can substitute that too. I will also be using a dairy based cream cheese product. If you wish to substitute for a dairy friendly alternative, that is fine.
