This course is an entire school year's curriculum. It begins in August and ends in May. There will be breaks for holidays, Christmas, and spring break.

What's included

4 live meetings
3 in-class hours per week
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Homework is given using the online software IXL math. I use this program to assess students and assign practice. Once your learner is enrolled an IXL account will be created and you will receive their login information.
Assessment
Written progress reports and official transcripts can be provided to parents or legal guardians upon request.

Beginner Level
In this engaging and comprehensive 36-week live online course, 7th-grade students will delve into the exciting world of Common Core Mathematics. Through virtual instruction, collaborative activities, and interactive problem-solving, students will develop a strong foundation in essential mathematical concepts and skills. The course meets four times a week for 45 minutes, providing ample opportunities for students to actively participate, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback from the instructor.

Course Objectives:
1. Develop a deep understanding of the 7th-grade Common Core Math standards.
2. Enhance problem-solving skills through real-world applications of mathematical concepts.
3. Strengthen critical thinking and analytical abilities by engaging in mathematical reasoning.
4. Foster collaborative learning and effective communication through group activities and discussions.
5. Cultivate a growth mindset and perseverance when faced with challenging math problems.

Topics and Standards Covered:
1. Ratios and Proportional Relationships:
   - Analyzing proportional relationships
   - Solving real-world and mathematical problems involving ratios and rates

2. The Number System:
   - Understanding rational numbers and their operations
   - Applying operations with integers and rational numbers

3. Expressions and Equations:
   - Simplifying expressions and solving multi-step equations
   - Solving real-life and mathematical problems using equations and inequalities

4. Geometry:
   - Understanding geometric figures and their properties
   - Calculating area, volume, and surface area of 2D and 3D shapes

5. Statistics and Probability:
   - Analyzing and interpreting data sets
   - Understanding probability and making predictions

6. Mathematical Practices:
   - Reasoning abstractly and quantitatively
   - Constructing viable arguments and critiquing the reasoning of others
   - Modeling with mathematics
   - Using appropriate tools strategically

Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on activities, interactive simulations, and virtual manipulatives to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts. Regular assessments, quizzes, and projects will be administered to monitor progress and provide feedback to students.

Prerequisites: None. This course is designed for 7th-grade students looking to develop a solid foundation in Common Core Mathematics.
