Learners will learn how to problem solve and be creative in this engaging and hands on Story Time STEAM challenge class! STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We are going to listen to the story The Gingerbread Man by Karen Schmidt. After listening to the story the learners will step into the shoes of an engineer and artist and go through the Engineering Design Process to create or build their very own masterpiece! The first step in the Engineering Design Process is the ASK, What is the problem? The second step is to IMAGINE. This is where they will brainstorm and sketch out different ideas and talk with each other of possible solutions to our problem. The third step is to PLAN. The learners will draw out their final design. The fourth step is to CREATE. The learners will start creating their builds. Then we will share our builds with each other. Throughout this process the learners will learn how to reflect on their own work while also learning how to actively listen to others and give feedback. The final step is to IMPROVE. This is where the learners will make any improvements or changes to their build. I will walk the learners through each and every step during this class while helping them build a foundation of a growth mindset and willingness to step outside the box and be creative! This class is a safe space for all learners to come and build and learn together! I will take them step by step in the design process but creative freedom and self directed learning and problem solving is the forefront of this class. They are the leaders in their education! **This class is also offered as an ongoing class! "Let's Bring Stories to Life!
