This fun class is designed for students who are already comfortable with the basic chords on Ukulele and moving between them. Chords that should be comfortable include: C, F, G7, C7, Am, and G. We will begin the first week with a quick review of these chords and then dive into a variety of other chords as well as different ways to find chords (moveable chords) and chord families. New chords and how they relate to each other will be added each week. Beginning on week two students will be introduced to the following concepts: Fingerstyling, Legato Playing (Hammer Ons and Pull offs), Melodic note playing (using both standard musical notation and tablature), and Creating and perfecting Riffs and Licks. The best music education is cyclical, meaning we take initial concepts and return to them, building on that knowledge and adding difficulty each week. Each week will revisit chords, fingerstyling, legato, melodies, licks and riffs and will add each week. For example, for our melodic playing we will begin by reviewing the fretboard and learning to play a major scale. The second week we will add a new scale pattern and explore how to find sharps and flats. Our chords will grow as we learn new songs and then learn to play them in different keys while demonstrating how moveable chords can be used. Students will have the materials to progress as quickly as they are able. Throughout the course we will use new songs and music to grow their repertoire.
Learning Goals
Students will improve and expand their knowledge of performance on the Ukulele in many aspects of playing. Chords, Note reading, Melodic Playing, Finger Styling, Strumming Patterns and unique skills such as Hammer Ons and Pull offs and chucking will be added to their skill set.
