This class was designed for students that have either completed an introductory class for Ukulele or have learned some on their own. I will begin by assuming that all students know how to play the open string notes melodically and the chords: C7, F, C and G7. During each of the four classes we will move forward with new chords, multiple strumming patterns and playing melodically on all strings past open notes. We will address note reading and rhythm reading as well. Playing an instrument is a cyclical process and we will review a bit each day and then add a new chord or two. The first week we will discuss and practice which fingers guide the movement to the next chord. The second week we will also use new strumming patterns to help the process of changing chords. The first week will review the melodic playing and note reading and move forward with new notes. During the second week we will develop an understanding of how the neck and fretboard are designed in order to be able to find new notes on their own. The class will read music and charts off of their screen and we will alternate between playing together and having individuals play so that I am better able to assist all learners. We will also use some YouTube videos and play alongs to see how their new skills can be used and enjoyed on their own. Tablature will also be introduced during the second week.
Learning Goals
Students will move past the beginning stages of playing Ukulele into more melodic playing, more strumming patterns and more chords.
