Class Experience

Come join us for a weekly Math Lesson and Social Time!
This ongoing class is intended for learners that have completed my Second Grade Super Skills Course, or are entering their 3rd grade year. Learners may join at any time, based on skills they are interested in strengthening. Skills do not build on one another, as students will be introduced to the strategy being implemented at the beginning of each class.

Each week after introducing themselves, learners will engage in mental addition and...

Students will learn multiple mental strategies to implement so that they leave the course with the confidence to tackle any problem.
Addition Strategies Include:
- Doubles/Near Doubles
- Making Tens
- Making Landmark or Friendly Numbers
- Breaking Each Number into its Place Value
- Adding Up in Chunks
Subtraction Strategies Include:
- Adding Up
- Removal
- Place Value
- Adjusting

Students will not complete homework in this course.

Students will not need any supplies for this course. Students may need access to a second window on their computer in order to play the game on weeks where that is the activity.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:Nearpod
Kahoot
Blooket

Students will be assessed based on their participation and willingness to apply the strategies being taught. The strategies to be implemented are mental, so paper and pencil assessments will not be used.

30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
