Class Experience
Students will learn multiple mental strategies to implement so that they leave the course with the confidence to tackle any problem. Addition Strategies Include: - Doubles/Near Doubles - Making Tens - Making Landmark or Friendly Numbers - Breaking Each Number into its Place Value - Adding Up in Chunks Subtraction Strategies Include: - Adding Up - Removal - Place Value - Adjusting
Students will not complete homework in this course.
Students will not need any supplies for this course. Students may need access to a second window on their computer in order to play the game on weeks where that is the activity.
Students will be assessed based on their participation and willingness to apply the strategies being taught. The strategies to be implemented are mental, so paper and pencil assessments will not be used.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
