My goal is that young learners will realize that they probably already can read words by just noticing the print around them. This will build their confidence as beginning readers. I will also extend their thinking by teaching them to notice the letters and hear their sounds as they "read" the print around them, whether at home of from the car as they are riding. Do some of these words begin the same as other words they notice? Hopefully this will encourage them to be more aware of environmental print and have discussions with parents, siblings, other family members, and/or friends. I will use a slide presentation with pictures of signs they probably have already noticed in their surroundings. This is the perfect "springboard" for them to "take off" in learning to read better.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a retired kindergarten teacher (31 years) and love teaching early academic skills as well as various crafts/fun projects. Art and Music are also some of my favorite subjects. I believe children learn best by using as many senses as possible (sight, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling). I especially enjoy teaching in units. For example, If I am teaching about the octopus, I like to integrate science, reading, math, social studies as well as art and music all together. I love to see a child's face and eyes light up when (s)he realize (s)he just learned or accomplished something new.
My personal passion is my family. My husband of 47 years and I especially enjoy our 2 daughters, their husbands, and 5 grandchildren along with our 2 dogs.
