Get ready to paint a masterpiece! I offer very detailed and patient instruction so that painters of every level will walk away proud of their work. It is my hope that this class will inspire a love for art and painting, and in the very least instill confidence and belief that anyone can be a good artist. Step by step instruction will be given in this 70 minute class, and additional skills explained from properly picking up paint on the brush, to blending colors, adding highlights, choosing a light source and knowing where shadows should be placed. As well as my love for art I have a love for science and making every opportunity a learning one. While we paint, peers will interact and learn fun facts about the various sea creatures they are painting. I believe in the power of group discussion and positive feedback so that is incorporated into every class I offer. In our current climate, peer engagement is one of the most important factors in online learning, so interaction among students is encouraged. Upon completion of our paintings, each learner will have the opportunity to share their painting and receive positive feedback from their peers when I ask them to, “name one thing you love or find creative about (student name)’s painting?” I will soon list additional one-time animal painting classes in this series entitled “ You Can Paint Too!”
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of acrylic painting on canvas, how to use acrylic colors, blend, create new colors, create shapes with single strokes, choose a light source, and use highlights and shadows that accurately reflect that source. They will also learn fun life science facts about a variety of sea creatures including coral and coral reefs, sea turtles, sharks, and starfish. Students will engage with their peers and give each other positive feedback.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Megan Michelle and I have had a passion for teaching my entire life. I attended UCLA pre-med for two years when I switched to major in Anthropology and completed my BA. I then completed all AMSN nursing prerequisites before retiring from higher education to be a stay at home mom and homeschool teacher. I started a Homeschool Cooperative in my community that has been running strong for 4 years and has over 15 participating families. I have been tutoring students of all backgrounds and ages for several years, beginning in high school where I developed a tutoring program between high school students and 2 local Elementary Schools, and now homeschool my own children who are in Preschool and 1st Grade.
I have several long standing hobbies including but not limited to; painting, drawing, tattooing, cooking, surfing, playing guitar and piano, and studying French.
I have expertise in Latin American studies, Sociology-Cultural Anthropology, Archeological Anthropology, beginning French Language, Art, Life Science, and am proficient in most K-12 courses.
I love working with children and nurturing a child’s love for learning, encouraging them to ask questions about the world around them, and viewing life from the lens of a little explorer or scientist. I plan on offering a variety of courses which accomplish these objectives. My lessons range from learning about dinosaurs and prehistoric marine reptiles, to how to paint a masterpiece, from traveling inside an animal cell, to discovering that everything on Earth is made from protons, neutrons, and electrons, fun music classes, and introductions to a new language.
I have a developed holistic teaching style in which I tailor my lessons so that they fit the needs of all learners present, and take into consideration different strengths and learning styles. I am engaging and welcome participation and conversation, and love providing positive feedback to increase each students’ confidence and love of learning.
I believe Everyone is gifted and has something major to offer the world and the key is to tap into those unique gifts in each child and nurture them.
My favorite quote about learning: “ Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
