You Be You Songwriters' Club: Early Elementary
This weekly drop-in collaborative songwriting class is geared toward students in grades pre-k-2nd. Each week, we'll pull a theme out of a hat, and work together to complete a whole song! After class, enjoy listening to a demo of your song!

Students will not have homework, but will receive a demo of their song (an instrumental version AND a version with me singing) following class, that they are encouraged to sing along with for the fullest experience of writing, and inhabiting a song.Class Experience
Students gather each week to write to a specific theme... pulled out of a hat! This playful and creative class exposes students to song structure, improvisation, figurative language, rhyme scheme, and basic harmonic function. Zero experience needed! Students will gain an understanding of elements of song sections: chorus, verse, pre-chorus, bridge! They will also participate in singing the song the group writes each week. My teaching style is playful, humorous, but serious about kids' outcomes. This class incorporates CASEL's suggested National Social Emotional Learning suggestions, is culturally responsive, and explores a wide range of musical styles. Week by-week breakdown (4 week sample, keeping in mind each week's theme will actually be a surprise!) Week of 2/1: Theme - "I belong where..." Week of 2/8: Theme - "I wish..." Week of 2/15: Theme - "If you really knew me, you would know..." Week of 2/22: Theme - "compassion"
Learning Goals
Students will strengthen their skills in singing, pitch matching, musical improvisation, rhyme scheme, melodic shape, and more! They will also strengthen their relational skills as they work together to bring a song to life each week.
