Class Experience

What are college admissions officers looking for in a successful applicant?

In this class, students will play the role of admissions officers. They will review application summaries of candidates for their school, and then, as a group, they must agree on which applicants to admit. Students will defend their choices as they reach a group consensus. It's not as easy as you might think!

Students will reflect on the experience of being an admissions officer and relate it to their own high school experiences. We will have a conversation about steps they can take now to make themselves competitive college applicants.

This class will also include a discussion of how colleges may value different qualities in candidates based on their size, institution type, and selectivity, as well as common mistakes to avoid as an applicant.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about factors considered by admissions committees and how the college type can impact how factors are valued.

Students will reflect on their own high school experiences and identify ways that they can improve their college candidacy.
