Description

Class Experience

Students will learn:
- the parts of the ukulele, including the numbers of the frets, and the names of the strings as well as their accompanying tuning machines
- how to tune the ukulele and keep it in tune
- how to hold and strum the instrument properly
- how to form several chords
- how to read a chord diagram
- how to read a lyric sheet with chords
Warm-up exercises plus practicing the songs we are learning in class.
- A ukulele that can stay in tune (soprano, concert, or tenor size) - A clip-on ukulele or chromatic tuner (my favorite kind: https://www.amazon.com/Snark-SN6X-Clip-Ukulele-Current/dp/B01H74YXNQ/). If you can't get a clip-on tuner in time for class, try downloading a tuning app on a smartphone. Searching "ukulele tuner" in the App Store or Google Play should turn up plenty of results; just get one that's free and well-reviewed. - ¼ inch stickers in orange, red, green, and purple (https://www.amazon.com/Coding-Circle-Labels-Bright-Colors/dp/B0731LNFGZ/) You could use stickers you already have, but you may need to cut them; they should be about 1/4" inch to fit on the fretboard. You can also use colored-in bits of mailing labels or masking tape, or even use Scotch tape and little pieces of paper. I'll show you exactly where to put them during class. - A printer would be excellent as it's great to have all your reference materials and songs printed out and in one place for class and practice time. If you don't have printer access, let me know and we can work something out! - A hardback 3-ring binder to hold your materials.
I use informal assessment of progress, and offer progressively more advanced chords, strumming patterns, and songs to keep the student advancing at a steady but achievable pace.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
