Welcome to the Yoga Club for Kids! All are welcome! Let’s get our bodies moving and blood flowing. Class will begin with some chit chat where the kiddos and I can talk about some of our favorite ways to stay active as well as al the special things going on in their day to day! Having a workout partner or group makes working out fun and we are more likely to stick to our routine! It's important to note that fitness isn't about how you look, it's about how you feel! Being healthy looks and feels different for every body which is why we try our best to offer a variety of movement classes at Ready Set Fitness Kids! Class will then begin with breathing and stretching exercises. Next, I will continue to model and perform a variety of stretches that will be for our core, upper and lower body. The stretches will be fun and fresh each class! No prior experience is needed because each stretching exercise or movement can be modified to make it more challenging or less challenging. I will demonstrate the difference so each learner can listen to their body that day and do more or less as they feel comfortable. Since all exercises can be modified, each kiddo will feel successful and strong throughout class! Finally, class will finish with gratitude, positive thoughts, and a cool down movement. We will practice different deep breathing techniques throughout class. Learners will have the opportunity to share their own favorite stretches and socialize during the workout session! I love including games where we get to know each other more or learn about the human body and nutrition in a fun way or just games to get to know each other. You can expect your child to receive lots of encouragement and praise throughout our workout. They will leave feeling excited about fitness, and with new stretches they can practice at home by mixing and matching them together! We want every child to leave the Ready Set Fitness Kids Studio feeling empowered, strong, and valued. Our goal at Ready Set Fitness is to pour our love and enthusiasm for physical activity into your child so much that they develop their own intrinsic motivation to get active each day! I can't wait to meet you! Please feel free to try out a class with Miss Shannon and Ms. Kara both, as our teaching styles are different! If you are looking for a second movement class for your child, check out our variety of Dance and Workout Clubs! Many of our learners enjoy taking both classes!
Learning Goals
Your child will learn various stretches and exercises throughout class. I will teach them proper form by modeling both the correct and incorrect ways to perform each one. The goal of this class is to help promote a love for physical exercise and health while learning how to use movement to calm our (sometimes!) overwhelming emotions. I seek to do this by providing a comfortable and inviting environment for the learners while we also build camaraderie with one another. I take pride in providing an engaging workout that your child will look forward to every week!
Improvement in the areas of strength, balance, agility and awareness of their own body.
Ongoing group classes are great practice for developing social skills and building friendships with familiar faces. I never mute learners (except in cases of distracting background noise, etc).
They will also be working towards achieving the daily physical activity recommendations of both the CDC and American Heart Association. According to the CDC, it is recommended that children and adolescents ages (6-17 years) should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day, including daily aerobic – and activities that strengthen bones (like running or jumping) – 3 days each week, and that build muscles (like climbing or doing push-ups) – 3 days each week."
According to the American Heart Association:
Active kids are more likely to have:
-a healthy weight
-stronger, healthier bones and muscles
-better heart and brain health
-improved brain function, including memory, attention and problem-solving
-better school attendance and academic performance, especially in math, reading and writing
-lower long-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some kinds of cancer
-less stress and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression
-less inappropriate and distracting classroom behavior
-improved mental health and psychological well-being, including confidence and self-esteem
