My entire career has centered around working with youth. With each new chapter of my life, I explored opportunities to work with youth in new settings. I began through babysitting, tutoring and being a camp counselor in high school and then was a professional nanny while completing college. With my degree in psychology, I transitioned to social work settings through youth group homes and specialty schools. I began teaching elementary school, coaching youth sports and running a Girl Scouts Troop in 2009, while earning my MA and teaching credentials. For the past decade, I have moved a lot due to my husband’s Active Duty Army career. That journey led to opportunities to work hands-on and behind the scenes in administration, operations, management and training with various military youth programs and events. It also led to the opportunity to complete my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, certifying me to teach Yoga and Mindfulness. I have done this through camps, private lessons, public libraries, youth programs, schools, military events and community groups since beginning my program hours in 2017. Moving frequently meant finding entire new communities for work, my children and myself with very different cultures from our home and from our previous Army Duty station even. I have learned to translate my experience, skills and strengths across so many populations and circumstances and found a passion in exactly that. It also amplified existing passions for unique cultures, social structures and for traveling. Since settling back into civilian life, I have worked in Clinical settings, supervising ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) youth receiving ABA therapy from behavioral specialists and I currently teach Yoga, Wellness, Community Minds and Health at a combined middle school and high school in California. My passion is mentoring and teaching kids, especially marginalized learners. I value creating a safe and accessible space for any child by intentionally including elements of mindfulness, social-emotional learning, researched best-practices, differentiation and social-skill building as appropriate.
