Class Experience
In reading study, students will: Develop positive attitudes to reading. Read independently, with understanding. Develop their skills of inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, sequencing and summarizing. In writing study, students will: Plan and draft their writing. Compose and rehearse sentences orally. Organise paragraphs around a theme. Create settings, characters and plot. Evaluate their own and others' writing, suggesting improvements. Proofread for spelling and punctuation errors. Read their own writing aloud, with expression, making the meaning clear. In vocabulary, grammar & punctuation study, students will: Extend sentences by using a wider range of conjunctions. Use present and past tense. Choose nouns and pronouns appropriately. Use prepositions, adverbs and fronted adverbials. Use commas in lists, and after fronted adverbials. Use the possessive apostrophe with singular and plural nouns. Use and punctuate direct speech. In spelling study, students will: Use prefixes and suffixes. Spell words that are often misspelt. Write sentences dictated to them, that include words and punctuation taught so far.
