Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about the life of the first and only African Samurai of Japan.
I have experience teaching sensitive topics and subject matters in community settings to various age groups. I will teach this class from an educational, cultural and historical view point.
Construction paper pre-cut into a medium size square shape and a glue stick.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There will be a description of persons based on skin color. The reason was that the Japanese people had never seen a man with dark skin before in feudal Japan. There is no negative connotation in the discription.
I will refer to the following books: African Samurai: The True Story of Yasuke, a Legendary Black Warrior in Feudal Japan by Thomas Lockley and Geoffrey Girard and Yasuke The Legend of the African Samurai, by Jamal Turner, to prepare for this lesson.
