Class Experience
In this seven week course, we will read through and discuss the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. Students will discuss themes such as Dystopian society, reality TV, symbolism, imagery and irony. There will also be a discussion of major and minor characters and their evolution or lack thereof. The class will include weekly writing assignments. The writing assignments are designed to hone writing skills while also focusing on areas of literary analysis. Students should be able to handle the independent reading schedule as well as be able to construct writing assignments. Each assignment will be evaluated based on a rubric or set of instructions provided by the instructor and feedback will be provided to the learner. In this FLEX schedule version of the live class, students will watch a video posted by the instructor each week outlining the themes, symbols, and literary elements to focus on for the week's reading. There will also be a writing assignment scheduled for each week where students will apply the information in a written evaluation format. Instructor will also post engaging prompts in the classroom where students can respond and interact with each other. Live sessions may be scheduled as needed or requested. At the end of the class, students will watch the movie adaptation of the book in order to discuss similarities and differences.
