Description
Class Experience
Students will discuss a book with others and learn the nuances of being respectful communicators.
I have taught learners in public schools for 31 years. Throughout this time, I have been willing to approach sensitive and high-risk topics with my learners in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Over the many years, my training consisted of a three-week course to build peer leadership within the classroom, a number of topic-specific professional development activities related to a variety of sensitive topics, and, also, training other teachers how to do the same in their classrooms
Students will be expected to come to each class having read the entire novel. Using Post-it notes to mark discussion points and using a Writer's Notebook to journal about the novel are strongly encouraged as well. If a student prefers to read on an electronic device, they may use the tools available for highlighting and notetaking.
Each student must have access to the book, Into the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
