I am not currently offering this class, but will in the future. Feel free to check out my other awesome classes in my profile! In this one time class, students will interact with a virtual presentation that includes superheroes with comic book style visuals, settings, and storylines. First, students will use a Name Generating Chart to find their Superhero alias. Then, I will quickly introduce the concept of inference: what it is, how our brains make inferences, and why not everyone makes...
Students will practice inferencing skills by combining text evidence with prior knowledge and be able to explain their reasoning. Students will understand that schema (prior knowledge) plays an important role when inferring. Schema can cause people looking at the same evidence to conclude differently. Students will also practice finding character traits, theme, and cause/effect.
I have been a classroom teacher for 19 years. I have often utilized similar activities in my classroom in order to help students understand inferencing and practice finding evidence from texts in a way that is fun yet can integrate other reading skills as well.
1 file available upon enrollmentA pencil and printed copy of the Student PDF pages (will be posted in the classroom). Students may wear their super hero capes and masks (home made or store bought) if they would like!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class is meant to be a fun and light-hearted look at super heroes and is intended as a fantasy "game" . There are no mature themes in the storylines.
