Class Experience

Learners will join a team to help Santa find the toys. However, they have to be careful because Jack Frost might sneak up and take some of their toys. Which team will be able to travel around the North Pole and collect the most toys for Santa?

Learners will practice adding and subtracting within ten with the help of a tens frame. Learners should know how to count to ten. They will also learn about making groups of ten and counting by tens.

I will post a video in the Outschool classroom before the game begins. Learners should view this video before coming to the class. The video will review the rules of the game. I find that this introduction helps learners feel more confident about what they will be doing during the class.

It is important that each learner have all their supplies ready to go at the beginning of class. We will get started right away. Learners who are not prepared will be able to help us with the math, but they may not get the full experience of the game.

Supplies Needed:
*Printed Game Choices Sheet (File is shared upon enrollment.)
*Scissors
*Glue Stick
*Peppermint Candy Counters (You could also use mini Christmas erasers, or another holiday themed counter, or you could use something simple such as beans or coins.)
*A crayon

If there is extra time after the game, learners will be invited to share their favorite toy. Therefore, they may want to have it nearby, but not too close to be distracted by it.
