In this one-day class students will learn about the unique design of the Dauntless dive bomber and about the courage of the pilots and crews who helped turn the tide of the war in the Pacific.
Class experience
Students will explore the evolution of the SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber and the unique design characteristics that made it successful. We will look at examples of the aircraft’s performance in battle. We will discuss the role it played in the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, and other important Pacific battles. We will discuss how an airplane deemed as obsolete at the beginning of the war was so successful in battle. Finally, we will discuss, with examples, the courage and skill...

I spent eight years in the United States Air Force as a radar technician. Working with the highly mobile radar of a forward air control post I traveled the world in C-130s and C-141s, was buzzed by A-10s, and became proficient with various weaponry. Since the third grade I have been a student of the history of WWII and WWII military aircraft.
