This 8 week course will cover the basics of writing that is taught in 2nd grade. Each lesson will have a specific focus, a model done by the teacher, some time to independently practice and write, meet with other students via breakout rooms to do peer editing, and time to publish and complete their writings. The following schedule is the planned outline for the 8 week course, but may be altered slightly if students need help or need extension in certain styles of writing. Week 1 and 2: Focus on the basic process of writing. This includes brainstorming, writing, revising, editing and creating a final copy. Week 3 and 4: Focus on Personal Narratives. Students will focus on the ways to show a story, rather then tell it by their word choice and use of adjectives and adverbs. They will be creating a writing piece based on a time that they were hurt. Week 5 and 6: Students will focus on creating an Informational Text. This unit will also focus on the structure of a paragraph. Students will be creating a writing piece about a friend. Week 7 and 8: Opinion writing will be introduced where the students will be given a problem and must find evidence to support their side. Students will have to do some writing time outside of class to complete any projects.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to create informational writing, personal narratives and opinion pieces.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Teacher Aubrey and I am so excited to be teaching on Outschool. I am coming up on my 6th year of teaching in the classroom. I have taught both 2nd and 5th grade classes throughout my career. I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2015 with my bachelors in Elementary Education, with emphasis on English as a Second Language. In December 2019 I became Nationally Board Certified, and joined thousands of teachers across the country who put forth extra work and effort into their practice. I have also been teaching English online for the past 3 years.
I love everything Harry Potter, Disney, Animal Crossing, board games, reading, Escape Rooms and being with my family. My husband and I have done over 120 Escape Rooms and I would love to meet some students who love Escape Rooms, and would want to bring those experiences to the Internet. As a mom of 2 girls, they keep me busy with crafts and games that I would love to teach to other students. My classes range from arts such as Origami you can make from a simple piece of paper, to learning how to transform your island on Animal Crossing. I am a huge advocate for reading daily and would love to start several book clubs or Battle of the Books to encourage a love of reading.
I believe every child has the ability to succeed, no matter what level they are at. I know some students need extra help in areas, and other students need extension in those areas. I will strive to find your student's area of need and to help them grow from that.
I will see you in the classroom!
