Description

Class Experience

Students will learn:
 - the structure of a college entrance essay.
 - the purpose of a college entrance essay.
 - how to craft a terrific personal statement.
 - how to edit and rewrite the draft.

My writing experience includes writing copy for marketing materials, ghost writing for corporate executives, technical writing, writing newspaper articles, and writing instructions for digital technology applications. Managing a corporate internal newsletter was one of my favorite projects. I created the newsletter design, interviewed and wrote articles about team members, and managed the editing and submission process for all the contributors. As a hobby, I love to write short stories, poetry, and songs. I can't imagine my life without writing.

As an online teacher, I teach a variety of writing classes. My classes include Writing Essays, Creative Writing, and Critical Reading Strategies. My passion is to help kids achieve their writing goals.

My education includes a BA in Communications and a Master of Science in Technical and Professional Communication (MSTPC). Because I have completed 2 years of my BA and all of my MS classes online, I am skilled with the various aspects of online learning. I love using what I have learned to help kids become better at reading and writing.
Students should be ready to do quite a bit of writing and rewriting during these two weeks. During the second week, students will rewrite several times.
Students can handwrite their drafts if they wish, but they will need to be able to type the final copy of their essay. To do this they will need Word, Google Docs, or some other tool for typing an essay.
The goal is for the student to have a well-written college entrance essay. There is no formal assessment other than my feedback.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
