Writing is highly encouraged outside of class so we have something to review in class. Amount of writing and time put in is at the student's discretion.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In this ongoing course, students will brainstorm, interact and begin to write their own short story, novel, or other writing prompt. They will brainstorm and share ideas, write the story, and even add pictures, if they want. Each week, we will go over what makes a story, writing compelling characters, adding a plot that draws readers in and ending with a conclusion.

If a student does not have a book or story idea, I can give them a prompt to base their story on. This encourages creative writing and imagination with each new prompt.

Not all of the writing will be done in class, especially if it is a full length novel. Students are highly encouraged to write outside of class so we can discuss the the direction of the story, character choices, and plot points in class.

All writing levels are welcome. Please let me know if there is something specific I can focus on with your child.

All stages of writing are welcome, whether you simply have an idea, a few chapters, or already have half a book written.

4-week Example:
Week of 3/13: Brainstorm Story Ideas or Use a Prompt
Week of 3/20: Begin Character Development and Outline
Week of 3/27: Review Story Development
Week of 4/3: Review Grammar, word choice and continue writing

The schedule above is just an example as the class is specific to the students enrolled and where they are at with their current writing project.

I keep the class small so I can work with each student individually as well as in a group. Please reach out if you do not see a time that works for you.
