This class will cover IEW writing units 1-4, including key word outlines, the story sequence chart, and informative paragraphs. The second semester class will complete the book with units 5-8. Through group writing during class, grammar exercises, homework, and feedback on assignments, learners will be guided through the steps to plan, write, and edit their assignments. I offer feedback on all class assignments that are sent to me. Class time structure: Introductions: An ice breaker type question offers an opportunity to play with words and style as well as to become acquainted with fellow learners. Questions concerning the literature selections may also be included. Writing lesson: The lesson is presented and group writing practices the structure. Vocabulary or Review: Vocabulary exercises and grammar review uses presentation slides and zoom reactions. Topics: Unit One instructs learners in writing a key word outline and presenting an oral report from the outline. Unit Two will introduce paragraph writing based on the outlines and the stylistic techniques: “ly” adverbs and who/which clauses (relative clauses). Learners will have an opportunity to write as a group and write individually. Unit three will apply the techniques learned in the first weeks of the course to writing in basic story format and include learning to add clauses and strong verbs to our writing. Unit Four will add quality adjectives and adverb clauses to the style techniques previously learned to craft informative paragraphs.
