Writing Wednesdays | A Weekly Meet-Up & Check-In for Writers
What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 7 - 9
Welcome, writers! It's fun to get lost in our own writing, right? But it can also get overwhelming, lonely, and frustrating! We can help with that. In this weekly writing check-in, let's discuss what you're working on. Bring whatever you're writing and get some feedback on it. Let's help each other keep our writing goals and stay motivated. Need help wording a sentence or a line of dialog? Want to make sure your action sequence makes sense? Wondering if your characters look and sound like you're imagining? Having trouble coming up with names for characters, chapters, etc.? Searching for someone to help hold you accountable when you set a writing goal? Are you just stuck? Maybe we can help brainstorm ideas. This class has a max of 5 learners. Sharing is encouraged--that's why we're here!--but you're more than welcome to be more of a motivator instead. Never feel like you have to share anything you're written. You can still help with ideas and maybe learn some tips you can apply to your own writing as well. You might feel more comfortable posting your writing in the classroom instead. Please do! Our Five Rules: 1) BE RESPECTFUL! I can't stress this one enough. It can be intimidating sharing your writing with others, especially if it's something you're struggling to get right. We are here to help each other and not to judge. 2) Be constructively honest. Be honest but don't be mean. Constructive criticism is what we're after. 3) Don't take feedback too personally. You will never become a better writer if you're not open to critique. Everyone has room to improve--even professional writers! The goal is not to take it to heart. 4) Be open-minded but be YOU. Writing is so subjective! No one is right or wrong when it comes to brainstorming ideas, and don't let anyone convince you otherwise. At the end of the day, it's YOUR story and ideas. Don't let what one person says make you second guess what you've done. 5) Be respectful. Yep. It's so important, it's going on here twice. Schedule: This class has no schedule since it is student led and will vary from week to week. Attendance Policy: Refunds for ongoing courses will not be given for missing class, as that is now a spot that could be filled by someone else. You can pay the weekly rate to hold your spot, or you can withdraw and reenroll when you are able, if there is an open spot. Any breaks in the schedule will be announced in advance, and you will not be charged if no class is scheduled for that week. I keep my classes open up until the start time and will only cancel if no one is enrolled, which means it is possible to have a class with only one learner. If you sign up within 24 hours, you are agreeing to the possibility of being the only learner in class.

Hello, Outschool! My name is Teacher Lauren, and I'm so happy to meet you.
My Outschool schedule includes a variety of English classes. Want to learn some literary terms? Try The Literary Twists and Turns of the Twilight Zone! Want to write something weird? Try Weird Writing Weekly or One Weird Writing. Want to write about your cat? Try Cat Tales! Or maybe you're looking for more of a challenge? Try a class in the Write Now, Right Now Series! Whichever class you choose, you are sure to have fun and learn something new in the process.
Most of my classes are 5 learners or less, especially for my writing classes. I prefer smaller groups for a more personalized class, where your voice matters. I want you to feel like you're part of a writing club, not lost in a sea of students. I encourage interaction and sharing ideas, all in a friendly and laid-back space.
