Is your child interested in writing? Do they wish they had other kids to share their writing with? If so, then "Writing Unleashed" is a club for young authors who would like to meet other writers their age and discuss topics such as how to overcome writer's block and how to develop a character.

Students at all levels of their book writing journey can benefit from this club. Those who haven't written or published a book yet can learn from students who have. Those who have written or published a book can get the word out about their book(s) and inspire other young authors. It's a great space to ask questions, review one another's work, get advice, and receive feedback.

Ms. Lisa will organize, moderate, and provide a positive, productive, and fun atmosphere where students can grow and learn from one another while having fun and making friends.

Writing Unleashed Mission Statement: To give young book writers a safe and fun environment where they can learn from one another, make friends, and discuss writing issues that are important to them.

Format:
 - Students can submit discussion topic ideas in the Outschool classroom.

 - Each week we will introduce new club members, go around the room to give everyone have an opportunity to talk about what they are working on, and then dive into our topic of the week.

 - Some possible topics are as follows (can absolutely change depending on group input!):
          - Breaking through a writer's block
          - Planning your book writing process
          - Developing great story characters

 - This will be pretty informal, allowing students to express how they feel about writing, tell what their pain points are, ask for advice, share their work, etc.

  - The Classroom discussion post can be used to further discussions on the previous week's topic, to suggest new topics, or to talk with other writers about anything related to writing a book. Ms. Lisa will monitor the discussion group and provide students with guidance.

Prerequisites:
1. Students should be reading and writing English at a 4th grade level or higher.
2. Students should be interested in writing.
Learning Goals
The goal of this club is to provide a forum where passionate young writers can get together with others, share ideas, talk about how to get published, ask questions, share their work, and edit one another's work. Ms. Lisa will also be available to help students edit their work and move forward in the process to write and publish a book.

I love working with kids! I have 13 years of teaching experience, and I have taught in both traditional school settings and as a homeschool parent. I am passionate about helping kids at all levels of their reading and writing journey. It's so exciting when I see a student gain confidence as a reader/writer or when I can help a young aspiring writer achieve their dreams.

My writing experience includes writing copy for marketing materials, ghost writing for corporate executives, technical writing, writing newspaper articles, and writing instructions for digital technology applications. Managing a corporate internal newsletter was one of my favorite projects. I created the newsletter design, interviewed and wrote articles about team members, and managed the editing and submission process for all the contributors. As a hobby, I love to write short stories, poetry, and songs. I can't imagine my life without writing.

My education includes a BA in Communications and a Master of Science in Technical and Professional Communication (MSTPC). Because I have completed 2 years of my BA and all of my MS classes online, I am skilled with the various aspects of online learning. I love using what I have learned to help kids become better at reading and writing.
