Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will:
* Elevate their academic writing skills to meet or exceed grade-level expectations
* Learn to develop and articulate their thoughts through structured, precise, and concise writing
*Learn to appreciate the need for multiple revisions in order to produce high-quality written work
*Increase their writing stamina and develop the required patience to compose written pieces clearly and accurately
*Gain mastery over their chosen areas of opportunity by working at the sentence and paragraph level to develop their thoughts
I have taught English Language Arts and ESL at the middle and high school levels for nearly 13 years. I hold a BA in English Language and Literature and an MA in ESL with a focus on theoretical and applied linguistics.  Prior to my full-time work with students online I served as an instructional coach, reading interventionist, Friday School principal, and Secondary English Specialist for a large school district. I hold an active teaching license as well as a K-12 principal license. My focus areas of expertise are English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking), American and Historical Literature, Philosophy, Common Core standards, ESL, Social and Emotional Learning,  Project-Based Learning and Evidence-Based Instruction.  
Homework is individualized and most commonly takes the form of short reading passages, research, outlining and revision, critique, structural analysis and rewriting for precision and economy of language

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be continually assessed during each writing project with specific feedback, recommendations, and revisions to be made to their writing.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
