US Grade 1 - 3
We will begin by discussing different ideas and the main message the student wants to convey. As the student begins to write, I will facilitate the writing process by looking at organization and word choice and by checking for appropriate writing conventions; capitalization, punctuation, spelling, handwriting, and spacing. The student and I will focus on one or two skills at a time, and I will add and scaffold skills based on each student's needs: - Ideas - Organization - Word Choice - Voice - Capitalization - Punctuation - Handwriting - Spelling - Genre
Learning Goals
The student will demonstrate the ability to write by organizing ideas and using appropriate writing conventions. The student will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to use powerful vocabulary and be able to sound out words to spell them correctly. The student will enjoy writing!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi Kids! My name is Mrs. Schweinsberg. That's a long name, so call me Ms. Bonnie if you like. I am so happy to meet you! My favorite subjects are READING and WRITING, but I love learning and teaching about all different subjects. The friend you see in my photo is Hazel. She's a reading dog for Canine Classmates. Hazel and I read with students who need our help.
Hi Adults! It is a pleasure to meet you too! I'm a military (retired) wife, mother, grandmother, and retired teacher. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a minor in Reading from Texas State University. I am certified in Reading and General Education grades 1-8.
I started teaching sixth grade elementary in public school in 1990. After three years, I became a stay-at-home mom for fifteen years. I volunteered in my sons' classrooms and substitute taught for their school districts in FL, AR, AL, VA, and TX.
I returned to teaching full time as a Special Education Behavior teacher, working with students who had significant behavior difficulties. After six years in Special Education, I moved into general education to teach first grade, where I retired in 2018. After retiring, I became a Canine Classmates Best Buddy. I work with my dog Hazel, tutoring and reading with at-risk students in first, second, and third grade.
I teach with a growth mindset philosophy, where effort is expected and praised, and students understand it's always okay to make mistakes! It's also okay to have fun! As long as we're trying our best and growing, we're moving forward. I will use my expertise and energetic teaching style to give students the tools they need to GROW as life long learners. I look forward to the opportunity to work with your child!
