US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Have you ever needed to look up information about a topic using a book, article, or website and then been required to put the material in your own words? Throughout 4 weeks, students will become familiar with summarizing reference material in their own words utilizing outlines and stylistic techniques to add interest to their writing. By working together through brainstorming and modeling, students will experience the concepts together, before creating their own keyword outlines and summaries. All classes will include a short review game to reinforce and practice stylistic techniques that student may add to their writing. We will focus on utilizing topic and conclusion sentences while learning strategies for summarizing references. Throughout the course, we will summarize a weather phenomenon, a historical event, a travel destination, and information about a choice person or topic. Students should be able to read and write fluently. This class is kept small so we can work together collaboratively.
