What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, students will be presented with a wizard themed creative writing challenge. Students will be given a set time to create their written piece. When the writing time is up, students will present their written work to the class. (Students will be encouraged to present their written work even if unfinished. Students can complete their written work after class if desired). Wizard themed writing challenges will include whimsical and “What if…” scenarios to spark imagination and increase student engagement. (Examples: "If you had to create the Wizard handbook..." "What if you were a wizard and..."). The teacher will dress up as a fictional character named, “Wendy the Writing Wizard.” This character will add whimsy and fun to the class experience. The goal of Wendy the Writing Wizard is to show students that writing can be very exciting and fun. This class is great for students who are working on developing a positive mindset towards writing. The classroom environment will be supportive, warm and encouraging, and students will feel comfortable to express themselves. Students will be highly encouraged to create their own individual and unique piece of writing. The teacher will write during the class time as well to encourage a positive mindset and to model examples of how to continue and work through the creative writing process. Students can take this class as many times as they would like, as the wizard themed writing challenge will be different each class. The class is interactive, where student questions and discussions are welcomed and encouraged. The teacher will focus on balancing the learning goals and class pacing while encouraging student participation. This class is designed around the Common Core English Language Arts Standards for “Range in Writing.” W(3,4,5)10: Write routinely over extended time frames and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to create their own unique piece of writing by using their creativity to respond to a wizard themed writing challenge. Students will be able to practice their communication skills by presenting their written work to the class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Briana and welcome to my online classroom. I am passionate about teaching students and adding a touch of whimsy to the classroom environment to increase student interest and engagement. I have over ten years of teaching experience and I have taught many different age groups ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade. I have taught classrooms full of 35 students all the way to small group instruction with 6 students. I am currently an online ESL teacher.
My education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art with an emphasis in Art History. In addition, I attended design school in Los Angeles and received an Associate’s Degree in Visual Communications. I combined my passion for art and teaching when I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2009.
As a teacher, I am kind, patient and encouraging as I strive to create a classroom environment where my students feel comfortable to share their ideas. My classroom is inviting and positive and supports all learners and levels. My greatest passion as a teacher is watching shy students blossom into confident readers and speakers. I create interactive experiences for my students, so they can build their social skills and grow in their human connections with one another. I want my students to feel that they are in a real classroom. I care about each student and know that they can achieve anything!
In my Outschool classroom, I will teach a variety of classes including reading, writing, art and social skills with a fun and whimsical theme. I enjoy designing lessons around creative topics and subjects to create real life connections and increase student engagement. I can’t wait to see your child in the classroom soon!
