US Grade 3 - 6
Would you like to write a sonnet by the sea, a haiku on a snowy hill, use some personification in tropical paradise or maybe practice some alliteration while viewing the Aurora Borealis? Does the metamorphosis from a caterpillar to a butterfly inspire you to write using metaphors? Nature can inspire writing because it allows you to quiet yourself, appreciate the beauty and magic around you, and then create your own magic through your writing. Unfortunately, writers are not always able to physically travel to an area they find inspiring. That's where this weekly, nature-based virtual field trips come in! In this class, I will be your student's pilot, I mean, teacher, as we explore some of the most beautiful and inspiring places on the planet, and maybe even some outside of our planet! We will zoom into some of the most inspiring aspects of nature that can easily be forgotten in our busy world. Whether it's mountain scenes, the ocean deep or the tiniest of insects that intrigue your student, they are sure to be filled with inspiration as we learn about various creative writing elements and strategies, and incorporate them into our own writing. Weekly topics to be explored include specific types of figurative language like similes, metaphors, alliteration, imagery as well as other aspects such as elements of narrative writing. Other topics will include using clear and specific vocabulary as well as tone and mood in our writing. Each class will follow evidence-based instructional practices such as explicit teaching, which includes clear teacher instruction and modeling, followed by a gradual release into guided practice and independent work. Formative assessments in the course will provide the teacher and learner valuable information as a form of continual feedback to steer learning and growth as writers. These opportunities will be provided for students with results shared with families if requested, but not required. The adventure, creativity, and inspiration is endless! I hope your student will join us on this journey! Upcoming adventures include: Week of 5/12: Imagery on an island Week of 5/19: Similes in the sea Week of 5/26: Metaphors via mountaintop Week of 6/2: Personification among the prairie

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher and literacy coach to students all around the world for over 10 years! Some of my adventures include Jordan, Colombia, New Mexico on the Navajo Nation, teaching English online to Chinese students, and Florida. Though these places are all very diverse, bringing unique experiences and insight, I've found the common denominator (sorry, math teacher joke!) among students between all latitudes and longitudes: Students should see the magic in learning and be empowered to create their own magic!
I currently have my Master degree in International Education through Lehigh University. I am certified by the State of Florida in the United States to teach all subjects K-6, specifically reading endorsed K-12 and TESOL, as well as my most recent literacy coach endorsement I have taught in a variety of settings: online, one-on-one tutoring, small groups, public school, and private school. I am certfied by the State of Florida in the United States to teach Kindergarten-6th grade at public schools (language arts, reading, writing, math, science, social studies), Reading K-12 and TESOL. I am bilingual, so I understand the experience of language learning. I have an English bachelor's degree with an emphasis on Children's Literature from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida and am interested in teaching children's literature classes as well as creative writing classes.
I have experience teaching students from diverse locations with different walks of life and have found learning can be magical for all students, but sometimes, the teacher needs to work a little harder to make class magical and special to each student. All of my classes will begin with an opportunity to meet the teacher (me!) and fellow students. It is important to develop a community of learners who are willing to learn from and teach each other, for each of us has our own magic to sharr! For each class, the teacher will work hard to create a comfortable setting where students are engaged with new knowledge and content, willing to practice new skills and confident to share their discoveries and creations.
It is the magic of learning new words and facts, seeing unknown sites and creatures, exploring new ideas or languages, reading beautiful or captivating or challenging stories, and writing your own story... this is the kind of magic I would like to see in each and every one of my Outschool classrooms and I invite your student to join.
