Hello everyone! My name is Luke Lastoria and I am a secondary school teacher in Ontario, Canada. I currently teach students with autism, and have a background in English. As such, I will use my expertise to help students hone their essay-writing skills. My one-time class will be 45-minutes in length and focus on structuring a five-paragraph essay. I like to incorporate the socratic method in my teaching, and also have my students contribute to the discussion. I also like to provide material for students to work on, which we can get a chance to take up together. In order to provide a visual frame of reference, I like to use slides to supplement my teaching. Lastly, if time permits, we will watch a short a relevant video clip to supplement our learning. In my one-time class, I will be teaching students how to properly structure a five-paragraph essay. We will start off our 45-minute class by learning about the different types of essays that students can expect to encounter in secondary school. Next, we will focus on learning how to structure a five-paragraph essay, complete with a thesis statement, introductory and concluding paragraphs, and three body paragraphs. Our learning will include dialogue between teacher and students amid the backdrop of an informative slideshow. Students will finish by receiving, and getting a chance to work on, their own five-paragraph essay template. These skills will help students navigate secondary school English classes that require literary essays.
