As a magazine writer and a former university news writer, I know how important it is to learn how to write a good news story. In this class, I'm will walk elementary students through the process of short article writing. We will discuss deciding what is a fact and what is an opinion and how to interview someone to get both facts and opinions. We will talk about how to start and end the article well. I will give the students topics to cover each day. We will write the headlines and articles in...
If students are unable to finish their articles in class, they may choose to finish them as homework in order to share them with me and receive feedback.
Students will need paper and a pencil or access to a computer they can type on.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
