🌟General🌟 This writing class is taught using the IEW method by a certified IEW instructor and includes weekly writing homework for practice of in class skills. It is highly encouraged that students have previous experience with IEW, but students with no experience are also able to join and learn as we go. ✨Class Structure✨ Each week, students will learn about and practice writing a multi paragraph essay using the IEW method. We will practice using keyword outlines to guide writing as well as using stylistic techniques such as dress ups like -ly adverbs and who/which clauses as well as sentence starters to enhance writing. During this class, learners will use multiple source texts to "research" a subject. Within that subject, they will learn how to identify topics and information about that topic to use for writing a paragraph. Using the IEW method of keyword outlining each topic, students will write 2 to 3 paragraphs about the same subject using different topics. Once the body paragraphs are written, learners will then learn how to write a conclusion summing up the paper and then an introduction introducing the paper in that order as it is hard to write an introduction without first knowing the direction of the paper. By the end of class, learners will have seen several examples of how to write a 4 to 5 paragraph essay and will have written 1 to 2 papers of their own independently. ⭐Class Breakdown⭐ Week 1: Introduction or Review of Keyword Outlining and Practice With Summarizing a Reference Week 2: Summarizing Multiple References- writing a fused outline Week 3: Summarizing Multiple References - writing a fused outline Week 4: Summarizing multiple references with different topics Week 5: Summarizing multiple references with different topics Week 6: Writing a Conclusion Week 7: Writing an Introduction Week 8: Putting It All Together - Final Writing Project 💥Class Structure💥 🕰Time Spent in Class Class 1: 5 minutes of introduction and discussion 20 minutes of class examples and practice 20 minutes of independent practice Class 2: 5 minutes of sharing writing and introduction 15 minutes of stylistic technique and writing editing 10 minutes of examples and practice 15 minutes of independent practice *optional writing homework and assignments are assigned to be done outside of class for additional practice as well
