Writing is an important skill for young learners! This class is for writers who want to practice letter formation and work towards writing words and short sentences in a fun and social atmosphere. This is an ongoing class so lessons do not build on each other and learners can join at anytime. Because we will be picking letters at random, there are no assigned letters for the focus of each lesson. Through each activity, learners will gain experience with several different letters each week and practice writing them in isolation and authentically in words and sentences. Each class will begin with a letter warm-up naming letters and their sounds and a fine motor hand warm-up. Next, we will start writing! Each learner will help me pick a letter at random from a basket which we will practice, first with our pointer fingers, then with our pencils, dry erase markers, or other writing utensils. I will demonstrate how to make each letter using a dry erase board and ask learners to show me their work on their own boards or papers. As our final activity, I will challenge learners to write cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant, like in cat) words (which I will demonstrate on my board) that use the letters we practiced that lesson. We will also practice a short sentence (cvc words and pre-K sight words which learners can copy from my board). This will guide learners to think of letters as parts of words, sentences, and language rather than symbols in isolation, which is an important aspect of language development and literacy. Through practicing in these ways, emergent or reluctant writers will gain confidence, proficiency, and endurance for writing. I'm looking forward to writing with your learner! Teacher background: I have a B.S. in Education and am in the process of earning my M.S. in Reading Education. I love teaching language and literacy skills and am excited to be a part of your child's learning journey!

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I LOVE teaching! I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and am in the process of earning my Master of Science in Reading Education. I love creating and adapting my own curricula to make learning engaging and fun for the virtual learner and believe that providing interactive, organized, and thoughtful instruction in a supportive environment can pave the way for even the most hesitant student. It is my philosophy that learning happens in many ways, so, naturally, teaching should, too! My classes incorporate a variety of teaching tools to provide for different learning styles.
