Spoken Word Poetry is part of an oral tradition found throughout the world, from storytelling to Slam Poetry Competitions. Students will learn basic tips on writing for the stage and performing their original poetry. We will cover topics such as editing original work, pacing, word choice, stage presence, vocal inflection and articulation, managing stage fright, and getting ready for a performance. Homework Offered
Students will have the option to submit an original poem for edits between weeks 1 & 2, to use in the 2nd class when we discuss elements of performance.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

No formal assessment other than optional feedback.Grades Offered
Students are welcome to write about any topic that does not include hate speech or slurs against another. This may include topics of race, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc, just sharing so all are aware!
