** ✏️ This course covers writing skills for all of second grade level writing, from foundational skills to structured writing, and can be differentiated to support students’ needs. **

🍎 This class is taught using systematic and explicit teaching methods to ensure writers write interesting, complete sentences with elaboration, and paragraphs with a topic sentence, expanded relevant details, and a closing sentence to build a solid a solid writing foundation. Students will then be emerged into more structured writing forms such as personal narrative, opinion, and informational writing. Finally, students will learn to revise and edit their writing.

Using an ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach, we will target foundational writing skills and concepts. I will explain a new skill or concept, model the skill, practice the skill with students, then have students practice what they learned. Students will engage in daily writing assignments, setting them up for success in writing. Skills will progress from easy to more difficult, ensuring skill mastery to build writing fluency and confidence.

Sharing my slides, I will guide students through each of these steps as we discuss and practice new skills. Students will annotate on the screen, use personal whiteboards, complete worksheets, and write in journals as part of the learning and practicing portions of the class.

*** 🗓 The schedule below shows the sequence in which we will cover skills and concepts. The pace may be altered as needed to allow time for students to achieve mastery, based on the needs of group. The goal is to set the students up for success in writing with confidence.

**Once students have mastered the foundational writing skills, we will move on to more structured forms of writing.
