US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
Little learners can be ready to take the next big step with just a bit of help! In this ongoing class, Ms. Katie will help Outschool's youngest learners to experience the satisfaction and confidence of writing complete sentences. We'll begin each class by reading the first sentence and practicing spelling each word out loud. While this is not a spelling class, this will set the ground work for future spelling lessons. We'll then move on to tracing the letters and writing the sentences. This process will continue, sentence by sentence, until the lesson is complete. ***This class is different from my other class, "Writing Short Sentences for Littles" because we focus on CVC words and simple sight words only, making this class ideal for young learners, often ages 3-5.*** (Please send me a message if your learner outside of this age range is interested in this class. I'm happy to include learners of diverse ages depending on their individual needs.) We'll practice these sentences using two different methods: 1) Two hand-outs will be provided for each class so that you can choose which one is best for your learner. One handout will have the sentences written in dotted font. This way, letter forms and spacing will continue to be re-enforced. The other handout will be only lines with no letters/words. You can choose between the two handouts based on your learner's skill and confidence in writing their letters. 2) Ms. Katie will write the sentences along with your learners. So, we'll be practicing copy work, as well as tracing, spelling, etc. Throughout each class, Ms. Katie will monitor the needs of each learner and tailor the class accordingly. This means that there may be times when the last sentence is not completed. That's ok! It's much better to do part, and do it well, than to struggle through it all just to say we finished the handout. On these dates, the following sight words will be included in our sentences with our CVC words: Week of: 8/8: a, an 8/15: are, ate 8/22: away, be 8/29: blue, brown 9/5: came, can 9/12: come, did 9/19: do, down 9/26: eat, find
Learning Goals
Little learners will grow more comfortable and confident writing complete sentences, forming their letters, and doing copy work. They'll also begin to build habits of good spelling.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Pensacola Christian College
Hello! I hope to have you join me in my classroom! I have a degree in education and have taught first and second grade and high school English in a private school. For the last 8 years, I have homeschooled my own children, which included teaching each of them to read. From the very beginning, we found that a strong phonics foundation was the key to reading success. This is the method that will be used in my classroom. Hope to see you soon so we can practice our reading skills together!
