Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
It's easy to write like we talk. This writing is informal and may be used for basic communications with friends and family, but are you prepared to compose a formal paper for your teachers and professors when they assign one? Have you learned the difference between passive and active voice?

Passive and active voice are different constructions and when asked to write formally, many students write in the passive voice because they think it "sounds" more academic. Each structure serves a purpose. Active voice often improves clarity by making it clear who is taking the action in the sentence, but passive voice helps avoid repetition.

We will examine verb choice and sentence structure to correctly determine if it is passive or active voice. Then students will practice revising sentences and finally creating their own active voice sentences.

I look forward to helping your student become a better writer.

Every learner in my classroom is important to me, and I want each learner to feel comfortable. I want to address the needs of each student. Therefore, if you feel your student has special needs I should take into consideration please feel free to share those with me in a message.
