Homework
1-2 hours per week. In order to be successful, students will need to spend significant out of class time to work on their essays. In each subsequent class, we will review previous work and develop a plan for the next steps. Although it varies tremendously, most successful essays require about 10 hours of work from the initial stage to submission.Class Experience

PLEASE NOTE: this class is in very high demand in the fall when students begin to work on school admission essays. If you expect to apply to a new school for the 2025-26 school year, the appropriate time to begin applications is fall 2024. I am already booking students for this time frame. I enroll students by request only. If you see any "availability" listed on line, it is likely to be incorrect. Please contact me to discuss up to date availability. I work very hard to try to fit new students into my schedule. I recommend that we find an agreeable day/time and book it through the fall for adequate prep time. In this private class I will help your child prepare school admission essays. This class is appropriate for private or religious middle/high school, or college admissions. I divide the process into four main sections - understanding the essay requirement and brainstorming, outlining, writing, and proofing. In a 45 minute class we usually concentrate on two of these sections. I am able to help students through the entire process if they sign up for multiple sessions with me, or I can assist with just one part where your student may need assistance. This class is mainly discussion based, until the final section, where I can provide specific editing suggestions. After each class, your student will need to actually complete the work we discussed, by committing some ideas to paper. The amount of after class time that your student dedicates to this project will dictate how long it actually takes to complete the entire essay writing process. We will work on only one essay at a time, but I can also show students how to carry forward ideas from one essay into another, to streamline the process of writing multiple essays. Because this is a private class, I tailor each session to the needs of the learner.
Learning Goals
Students will understand how to interpret an admission essay question, and then confidently progress through multiple steps to write a successful essay.
