US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
***This class will NOT cancel for low enrollment.*** A complete literacy program has two components: reading and writing. Learning to sound out words to write them will aid in sounding out words to read them. Whether you home-school or want to bolster your child's classroom experience, use this class to add writing skills into your kindergartner's, preschooler's, or 1st grader's curriculum. Each class, we will read a picture book and have a mini phonics lesson. Then we will write our own sentence/story (starting with just a few words or letters, later sentences). Individual students will build up new skills each week. Sometimes we will write together and sometimes we will write independently. The class will stay flexible and adapt to the learners' needs. Class runs for two full years but difficulty adapts to each learner's level. Difficulty is not based on the book or lesson. Enroll at any time. Who is this class for? Children that are just beginning to read or are almost ready to read. Children that are reading some words but have not started writing yet. Students should be able to recognize most upper and lower case letters, identify some letter sounds, and be able to hold a pencil and write their name. This class may be too easy for students that can write full sentences without any help. This class may be too hard for students that do not know any letters. Aren't sure? Message the teacher to see if this class is appropriate for your child. Some students may need parent help during class. Not ready for this class?
