Class Experience
Students often struggle with writing, especially "creative writing," because they don't know what to write about. Or, they start off strong but the story never really ends. Or, they hate it so much that they rush through it and nothing is ever improved. The IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing) method gives all students specific, incremental steps to follow. Students will read a story, analyze, and outline a short story, then write their own three-part story.
Students will probably not finish their story during class. Parents can expect them to spend 30-45 minutes finishing and improving their story.
Parents should be able to see three parts to the student's story, and see improvement each week.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
A source story will be provided each week. Please print this before class.
